River kicks off the Apertura with a win
Marcelo Gallardo’s team was clearly superior to Barracas Central, showing several moments of quality football and securing a 1-0 victory thanks to a header from Gonzalo Montiel.
River came out strong, controlling the midfield and creating opportunities down both wings. On the right, after a slick team move, Sebastián Driussi played a pass at the edge of the box for Aníbal Moreno, whose left-footed shot was saved by Marcelo Miño.
On the left, River had a very clear chance: Driussi set up Tomás Galván, who assisted Fausto Vera, but the midfielder’s shot hit Gastón Campi’s hand. Referee Nicolás Ramírez did not award a penalty. The final chances of the first half included a good cross from Facundo Colidio that Driussi could not reach, and a volley from the striker that forced another save from the goalkeeper.
The second half began in the same way, with River pressing and looking to score. After a couple of attempts from Juanfer Quintero, Galván tried a shot from outside the box, narrowly missing. At the 74-minute mark, following a precise cross from River’s number 10, Gonzalo Montiel scored with a header to make it 1-0.
Gallardo’s team continued to push for a second goal and came close with a high shot from Giuliano Galoppo and a one-on-one chance for Ian Subiabre. Barracas Central almost equalized through an individual effort by Enzo Taborda, and on the counter, Miño denied a beautiful finish from Driussi. In the final minutes, Maxi Salas failed to direct a left-footed shot inside the box, as River celebrated their first win of the season.
