River started off with a stronger presence and more control. It didn’t take long for the team to threaten the rival goal. Santiago Simon was very active and precise, sending a good front pass to Agustin Palavecino at the heart of the area. However, the midfielder failed to get to the ball. On another opportunity, River's No. 8 tried to score with a long range shot, but Rodrigo Rey made a low save. The third chance was at Lucas Beltran’s feet, but his header went just wide of the far post.

El Millonario kept trying to open the scoring: Rodrigo Aliendro almost scored when Rey came off his line, and later, Bruno Zuculini put Rey to the test with a long-rage shot. Elias Gomez almost opened the scoring with a header off a corner kick. Gimnasia counterattacked and had two chances thanks to Ramon Sosa: a header and a low shot that was saved by Franco Armani. Toward the end of the first half, River scored the well-deserved goal with a crossed right-footed shot from Beltran.

River didn’t keep the same rhythm in the second half, finding it hard to threaten Gimnasia’s goal. In spite of that, the match went smoothly on River's side of the field. Following a few attempts, Emanuel Mammana had a chance to score with a bouncing header off a free kick from the right-hand side. Pablo Solari and Miguel Borja made their debut wearing the River jersey and hit it off well in the attack.

Gallardo’s team dominated the match until the end, having several chances to widen the lead thanks to Esequiel Barco and Palavecino. This win gave three points to el Millonario, allowing the team to get back on track in the Professional League. On Sunday, the team will visit Aldosivi in Mar del Plata, to play the next matchday.
