Solid River: 2-0 at home and into the semifinals
Eduardo Coudet’s team shined at the Mâs Monumental, defeating Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata 2-0 with goals from Sebastián Driussi and Lucas Martínez Quarta to book a semifinal clash with Rosario Central in the Apertura Tournament.
Following the intense clash with San Lorenzo, River returned to the Mâs Monumental and celebrated a deserved win in front of its crowd. The team looked solid in every area of the pitch and quickly began to show its superiority, creating chances through Fausto Vera and Lucas Martínez Quarta before Facundo Colidio produced a brilliant play and set up Sebastián Driussi for the opener.
In the second half, Colidio nearly made it 2-0, but Nelson Insfrán denied him with a save. Shortly after, Santiago Beltrán came up big against a header from Germán Conti before River struck again: Martínez Quarta burst forward, Joaquín Freitas delivered the assist, and the captain rose above the goalkeeper to head home.
River comfortably closed out the win, could have added a few more goals, and will now host Rosario Central this weekend in one of the championship semifinals.
