San Lorenzo had the first goal scoring opportunity, but Gabriel Rojas’s shot went high. However, it was River that created the rest of the opportunities, making long-range passes to Braian Romero, and pressing up the field to get ball possession. Romero had two very clear scoring chances: a crossed shot from the right-hand side that smashed against one of the posts, off a great pass from Enzo Fernandez, and a crossed header saved by Sebastian Torrico.

While River dominated the game, the home team was awarded a penalty on one of the few occasions it ran up the field, but Franco Armani deflected Nicolas Fernandez’s shot with his feet. In the counterattack, Fernandez smashed a shot against Torrico’s right post, and then San Lorenzo's keeper prevented Esequiel Barco from scoring. Right then, River set the score at 1-0 with a tremendous header by Paulo Diaz off a corner kick. In one of the last plays of the first half, Enzo struck a long-range shot, but Torrico made a low save by his right post.

Gallardo’s team kept pressing and dominating in the second half. In the opening minutes, after Juanfer Quintero came onto the field, River almost scored the second goal: on one of the first chances he got, the Colombian player struck a left-footed shot that went just wide of the left goalpost. River kept trying and, during a quick run up the field, Barco received the ball and struck a very high shot when he was about to enter the penalty box.

Matias Suarez returned to playing after spending several months injured and had a positive impact on the team's performance. He even was close to scoring but his shot went high. The final moments went smoothly for River, which dominated the game thanks to confident, on-target shots and a very solid defense. Santiago Simon was close to celebrating his first goal, but his shot deflected off a defender and Torrico was able to save it low.

Thanks to this win, River now sits with 10 points in Group A (three wins and a draw in the last four matches). After playing the Argentine Cup match on Wednesday against Salta’s Deportivo Laferrere, River will welcome Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on Sunday, at the Monumental Stadium.
