The team led by Eduardo Coudet was the better side and secured a second consecutive victory in the Apertura Tournament. Sebastián Driussi (with a backheel) and Ian Subiabre scored the goals that sealed the win.

In the first half, River controlled possession but struggled to create real danger in front of the opponent’s goal. However, in the final 15 minutes the team managed to make the difference thanks to a scoring appearance by Sebastián Driussi, who finished with a backheel following a corner kick and celebrated his second consecutive goal after the one he scored against Huracán on Thursday.

Before that, River had chances through a shot wide of the target by Aníbal Moreno and a set-piece opportunity for Lucas Martínez Quarta. Sarmiento, meanwhile, barely troubled Santiago Beltrán, relying on crosses from the flanks that posed little real danger. The visitors were also reduced to ten men after Gabriel Díaz was sent off.

In the second half, River had chances to score a second goal through a one-on-one opportunity for Tomás Galván, a long-range left-footed strike from Lautaro Rivero, and a right-footed shot by Marcos Acuña, all three well dealt with by Javier Burrai. Around the 70-minute mark, Ian Subiabre received the ball on the left and fired a powerful left-footed cross to make it a well-deserved 2-0 for River.

River didn’t settle and kept creating clear scoring chances, but was denied several times by the opposing goalkeeper’s strong saves. With this win, Coudet’s team picked up another three points and remains in the qualification spots in its group. Up next, River will visit Estudiantes de Río Cuarto in Córdoba on Sunday.
