River defeats Talleres in Córdoba

Marcelo Gallardo’s team had a very good evening in Córdoba, claiming a well-earned 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Gonzalo Montiel and Maximiliano Meza.

At the start of a very even match, Talleres had the first chance with a shot from Rick; then Maximiliano Salas tried from outside the box. The home side had another attempt from Matías Galarza that went off target, but River capitalized on an excellent team move — a left-footed strike off the post by Milton Casco and a sharp finish from Gonzalo Montiel.

Near the end of the first half, Talleres found the equalizer after a rebound, but it was ruled out by VAR for offside. At the start of the second half, with changes on both sides, the Córdoba team had two chances — one through Mateo Cáceres and another with a header from Rick that was saved by Franco Armani.

Just past the 65-minute mark, Facundo Colidio created a brilliant piece of play, featuring a nutmeg, before setting up Maximiliano Meza to score. Both players had entered the match only moments earlier.

This well-earned victory allowed Gallardo’s men to bounce back from recent setbacks and claim three crucial points, improving their position in both the group and overall standings while keeping their hopes alive for next year’s CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Gallardo’s side will be back in action next Friday, taking on Independiente Rivadavia in Córdoba once again, in the semifinals of the Copa Argentina.
