River draws 2-2 in away match against Talleres

On the eighth matchday of the Professional Football League Cup, Martín Demichelis’ team drew 2-2 in Córdoba, with goals from Pablo Solari and Miguel Borja.
A very determined River came out strong from the off and took the lead before the 2nd minute: a great team play and a good move by Sebastián Boselli allowed Pablo Solari to unleash a left-footed shot from outside the box, beating Guido Herrera. Talleres quickly responded with a dangerous advance from Ramón Sosa, which Paulo Díaz cleared with a solid recovery. In another clear opportunity for Talleres, Franco Armani denied Rubén Botta the equalizer.
River regained prominence and came very close to scoring the second goal, with a long-range left-footed shot from Solari and a clear one-on-one opportunity for Miguel Borja, who saw his shot hit Herrera’s right post. However, the Colombian player got his chance and nodded in a superb cross from Nacho Fernández following a corner kick, setting the score at 2-0. Before the end of the first half, each team had a chance: Federico Girotti failed to find the net from the heart of the box, and Rodrigo Villagra’s low right-footed shot struck the post.
After the game resumed, Talleres had a prime opportunity to reduce the deficit with a header from Matías Catalán, but River’s captain made another excellent save, diving to his right. In the next play, Botta nearly pulled one back with a right-footed shot that went just wide, but eventually, Talleres set the score at 1-2 with a header from Sosa. Sosa himself was the key figure in another clear-cut opportunity, and Armani once again stole the show with a remarkable save toward the bottom corner.
Around the 75th minute, Juan Portilla leveled the score at 2-2 with a long-range right-footed shot that found the back of the net near the post. River felt the blow and tried to regain control, linking up in the attack and creating some dangerous plays, but failed to break the deadlock, and the match ended level. With this draw, River has secured 14 points and holds onto its qualifying position. On the next matchday, River will host Independiente Rivadavia at the Mâs Monumental stadium.
