River gave the first step in the Copa Argentina In Salta, the current champion made its debut in the new edition of the tournament beating Atlas 3-0 and advanced to the round of 16.

In its debut in the Copa Argentina 2017, and before a crowd that filled the Padre Martearena Stadium of the capital city of Salta, el Millonario beat Atlas 3-0 and classified for the round of 16.
River had the control since the beginning and, passing the ball around with patience, it cornered its rival until, in 12 minutes, it got the lead with a jewel by Gonzalo Martínez, who received Alario’s assist with his chest in the border of the area, put the ball into place and stroke a right kick that left the goalkeeper with no chances.
Gallardo’s team kept the control during all the first half and counted with many chances to add. In one of the clearest chances, Martínez escaped through the left and sent a low center-kick, that, for only a few centimetres, Alario could not connect within the small area.
The well-deserved second shout arrived three minutes before the end of the first half: Enzo Pérez combined with Moreira through the right and the Paraguayan sent a precise center for Nacho Fernández’s appearance, who, with a header, put the final score to the first half.
Atlas tried to disturb at the beginning of the second half, but it wasn’t long before River regained control and generated new situations in the rival area. A header from Scocco rejected by De Rosa and shot from Nacho after a play associated with Alario had been the best options for el Millonario in that phase, until, in the last minutes, a rival defense stopped an attempt with the hand in the area of the deb Rafael Borré and the referee applied a penalty. Gonzalo Martínez was in charge of the shot and, with a soft touch toward the right of the goalkeeper, scored the final 3-0.
Thus, River made the thousands of fans who accompanied it in Salta happy and gave the first step in its hope of defending the title in the Copa Argentina. In the next phase, its rival will be Instituto de Córdoba.
