RIVER PLATE TRASHED IN JAPAN AND GOT ANOTHER CUP River defeated Gamba Osaka 3-0 and won a new international cup: the Suruga Bank. Sanchez, Mercado and Martínez scored the goals.
The River of Marcelo Gallardo traveled to Japan looking for a new international cup: the Suruga Bank. Facing Gamba Osaka, current champion of the J-League Cup in its country, River showed again the hierarchy that took it to the top of the continent and won the match with a comfortable 3-0.
River imposed its conditions from the beginning. It was rounding the local and needed just six minutes to break the zero: after a series of rebounds, Bertolo was brought down in the area and the referee called a penalty. So effective as he was from the12 steps in the Libertadores Cup, Carlos Sanchez scored the1-0 with a strong shot.
The advantage did nothing but to consolidate the rule of River Plate, which had a couple of good chances from individual actions by Saviola and the dynamic of the tyreless Sánchez. The Japanese had an isolated chance when a move confused Barovero, but the goalkeeper recovered from it quickly and could avoid the goal by Patric. In minute 35, Mercado, with a good header, put the deserved 2-0 before the break. A tremendous bycicle kick by Sánchez was very close to be the third goal, but the ball hit in the crossbar.
Gallardo centered his attention on the bench in the first minutes of the second half seeking to consolidate a result that River already held calmly, and quickly get results, because, reaching the quarter-hour of the second half, a move in the right side of Gonzalo Martinez concluded with a great left-foot to set the 3-0.
From there, the local team had some good moves well resolved by Barovero, but it could never endanger a triumph of River Plate, who finished trashing on Japanese soil and added a new title to its glorious history.
