River thrashes Platense for the Angel Labruna Cup title Marcelo Gallardo's team beat Platense 3-0 at the Monumental Stadium with a very good collective performance. The scorers were Braian Romero, Enzo Fernandez, and Jorge Carrascal.

River played its first home match of 2022, in the lead-up to the start of the official competitions. El Millonario made its presence felt on the rival playing field from the very beginning, dominating the game, and threatening on the right-hand side. Thus, River set the score at 1-0: Alex Vigo tapped the ball to Enzo Fernandez, No. 13 passed it to Santiago Simon, who fired a shot that bounced off the keeper, but Braian Romero collected the rebound to open the scoring.
Then, Fernandez struck a crossed shot and, after a few good attacking combination plays, Romero failed to head a good cross coming from the right-hand side. River had another very clear chance at the feet of No. 19, who fired high off a subtle pass from Simon. For his part, Jose Paradela made a penetrating run on the left-hand side. The team was solid and confident in the defense, and so was Ezequiel Centurion when he was put to the test.
In the second half, River widened the lead thanks to a great goal by Fernandez: Jonatan Maidana recovered the ball in the defense, and Enzo headed up field to strike a right-footed shot on the edge of the penalty box, which flew low past Jorge De Olivera. The match went down smoothly for River, with Nicolas De La Cruz, Jorge Carrascal, and Tomas Pochettino, who made interesting contributions on the right hand side, coming onto the field.
Toward the end, De La Cruz struck a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box that slowly went down and narrowly missed one of the rival corners. On that same line, Pochettino tried with a long-range shot. Finally, the third goal was scored off an amazing attacking play: Pochettino passed the ball to Milton Casco, who set up Carrascal to score. Carlos Auzqui almost scored thanks to a crossed shot that narrowly missed De Olivera’s right post.
As River continues to get ready for the start of the Professional League Cup, the team will play against Velez at the Monumental Stadium, next Saturday, for the Juan Gilberto Funes Cup title.
