Marcelo Gallardo’s team claimed a 3-0 victory over San Martín de Tucumán, with two goals from Gonzalo Montiel and one from Giuliano Galoppo, advancing to the Round of 16 to face Unión de Santa Fe.

El Millonario returned to Copa Argentina action with flair, confidence, and strong individual performances, securing a commanding win at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades. In the first half, River created several clear chances through Miguel Borja, Matías Galarza, and Facundo Colidio, but only broke the deadlock near the end of the half, when Germán Pezzella headed the ball down for Montiel to score.

San Martín started the second half better and forced Franco Armani into action, with the goalkeeper responding brilliantly to two shots from Jesús Soraire. River doubled its lead after a fine team move, as Giuliano Galoppo’s deflected shot left Darío Sand with no chance. Later, Montiel finished low to make it 3-0.

With this result, Gallardo’s side advances to face Unión de Santa Fe, who previously eliminated Rosario Central. Next Saturday, River will travel to Avellaneda to take on Independiente in the Torneo Clausura.
