River took its good moment to Mendoza, product of a series of triumphs. In this hard commitment, el Millonario needed to add in threes once again so as to continue fighting for the highest position.

After a start in which both teams had opportunities to open the scoreboard, succeeding Ignacio Fernández’s clear chance (cross-shot, near a goalpost) and a one-to-one that Augusto Batalla blocked to Javier Correa, it was el Millonario the one to make its superiority evident with a great goal.

Lucas Alario, who had minutes before struck a shot in Rodrigo Rey’s right goalpost, gave a first-class definition after a great assistance by Gonzalo Martínez. From there onwards, everything belonged to Marcelo Gallardo’s team, which could have even scored 2-0 hadn’t been for the local goalkeeper’s answer to Sebastián Driussi’s shot within the area.

However, Godoy Cruz got to the tie due to a shot kicked by Correa that Batalla could not control. In spite of the blow, River deserved to get to half time in the lead. El Pity made a good individual move through the right, but Driussi could not push it in the small area, and Milton Casco lacked precision to finish another good group move.

In the second half, River continued to dominate, but it was hard for it to find opportunities. It counted with situations generated by Pity from the outside and two headers from Jorge Moreira and Iván Alonso, while Correa had the second for the local, but his shot left diverted. In the final part, after a corner kick from the right, Rodrigo Mora struck a precise header for the 2-1 and a huge relief after a year without scoring officially.

With a consolidated triumph in the scoreboard, el Millonario could score one more. Now, the next commitment will take place the following weekend, against Quilmes, in the Monumental Stadium.
