With a brilliant Armani, River advances on penalties

Marcelo Gallardo’s team held Unión to a 0-0 draw, but the goalkeeper shone, stopping two penalties as River won 4-3 and reached the quarterfinals.
River Plate secured another win at the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium in Mendoza. In the Copa Argentina round of 16, a tense match with late chances for both teams went to penalties, where River proved more clinical to move on to the next round.
During the first half, River had a clear chance through Giuliano Galoppo following a pass from Kevin Castaño, and another opportunity from Sebastián Driussi. Meanwhile, Unión tested Franco Armani with a wayward shot from Mauricio Martínez.
The second half saw more chances from both teams: Unión tested with shots from outside the box and late in the game had a very clear chance through Nicolás Palavecino; earlier, River could have won with two opportunities for Santiago Lencina and Miguel Borja.
In the shootout, River scored through Juan Quintero, Borja, Colidio, and the decisive Montiel (Martínez Quarta missed), while Armani kept out attempts from Lucas Gamba and Valentín Fascendini to send River through to face Racing in the quarterfinals.
