River Plate leads South America in both homegrown players and overall performance in Europe’s five major leagues over the past decade.

River Plate’s impact on world football is nothing new. The club has a long-standing tradition of developing top-level players with true global influence. Alfredo Di Stéfano and Enrique Omar Sívori—two of the three Argentine Ballon d’Or winners—took their first steps at River, as did dozens of footballers who have shone throughout history. As a result, River is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious youth academies in the world.

The latest update from the CIES Football Observatory report places River Plate as the South American club that has supplied the most homegrown players to the world’s five major leagues over the past ten years, with 38 footballers listed and a significant gap over its closest competitors.

The study also highlights the outstanding performance of River-developed players in European competitions. Measured by minutes played, footballers produced by River have been more impactful than those developed by any other South American club. With a combined total of 243,561 minutes on the field, River clearly leads the continent in terms of productivity and player contribution.

This report once again underscores River Plate’s global relevance, underlining its success in international youth tournaments and its proven track record in producing elite-level players.
